More or Less Food

January 28th, 2009 by Ken Mankoff

Well here we are slightly over 3 weeks in and we seem to have reached a turning point with our food. Nothing much fresh anymore. There was some fresh lettuce yesterday, but it was white and had bugs crawling on it, as opposed to green and healthy. The kiwis are gone. The melons are gone. The deserts are plentiful. I’m trying to channel my bygone 10-year-old self who loved the thought of no vegetables and lots of deserts, but he is not to be found.

In addition, I hear that the Chilean cuisine I didn’t get a chance to sample on the way down will not satisfy me much. Last year we returned from the ice to Christchurch, NZ, a town with menus covering anything you might want to eat. Apparently Punta Arenas has slightly more and fresher vegetables than the ship but one doesn’t feel rehabilitated until a few days after leaving PA.
